French President Nicholas Sarkozy opens Fouad Takla`s latest project

The Lycée Charles de Gaulle has come to symbolize the warm relations enjoyed by the people of France and Syria. The opening of the new French school coincided with French President Nicholas Sarkozy’s visit to Syria in September 2008.

Accompanied by a delegation, which included Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, the French Ambassador to Syria Michel Duclos, and other French business personalities, President Sarkozy spoke of his desire to build strong bridges of friendship between the French and Syrian people to an audience that included parents and alumni of the preceding Ecole Française.

President Sarkozy and his delegation toured the new campus, which is hailed as taking a more environmentally-friendly approach to teaching Syria’s young and future generations.
