History

2005 and beyond The successful on-time completion of the Four Seasons Hotel is praised at the hotel’s opening, attended by President of the Republic, Dr. Bashar Al-Assad and HRH Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal as well as many other government officials and dignitaries.

The company announces newly awarded contracts for a major railway carriages depot in Aleppo, a housing project for the charitable Rainbow Organisation and the innovativly environmentally-friendly French School in Mezzeh, Damascus. The Fouad Takla Company’s property investment and development portfolio continues to grow.

 

2003 The passing of Fouad Naim Takla puts the business in the hands of his five sons, who incorporate the business into the Fouad Takla Company in 2003. The three eldest sons are named managing partners while the youngest two finish their studies.

 

2001 Fouad Takla, the only local contractor allowed to bid for the 300-room Damascus Four Seasons Hotel, wins yet another landmark project. Shell Petroleum Company also hands Fouad Takla the contract for their offices in Dummar.



1990s Fouad Takla completes construction of the company’s head offices in Arnous Square. The business heralds a new era of property development – completing three residential blocks in Damascus’ upscale West Malki area. More power stations are built and the innovative Al-Rouj Irrigation Tunnel Project is completed. Work starts on the Summerland Resort in Tartous in 1997.

 

1980s The building and civil engineering business continues to flourish, working mainly with governmental clients such as the Ministry of Defence. Major power station and dam projects were undertaken for the enhancement of urban living in major cities in Syria.

 

1970s The Medical College of Damascus University and a number of major highways in the city are built. The business also wins its first major landmark project, the Sport Cities in Damascus.

The Middle East oil boom of the era helps fund governmental projects and the business successfully completes the largest three Sport Cities in Syria on a very tight schedule just in time for the Pan-Arab games of 1976. The project is hailed as an engineering marvel at the opening ceremony, attended by the late President Hafez Al-Assad.

 

1967 During the Six Day War, Fouad Takla is instructed by the Government to devote all his efforts to war work - building and re-building essential infrastructure, airfields and military housing in Damascus.

 

1964 Eng. Fouad Naim Takla, who was born in Homs, Syria in 1940, lays the foundations of what is now the Fouad Takla Company. Obtaining a Civil Engineering degree from Lebanon’s prestigious American University of Beirut in 1964, Fouad Takla moves back to Syria to establish his construction business.
